For Victor,
Here’s to the timeless beauty of Castle Peak!
And yes, my pregnant heart rate can (still) take it

It’s been over a year since I last visited Tahoe.
This Thanksgiving, we’ll get reacquainted once again!

Castle Peak
Location: California
Elevation: 9103 ft / 2775m
One of my favorite day hikes up in Tahoe is Castle Peak. We’ve done it several times, be it in my trail runners or snowshoes, each time has been such a delightful experience. The first 2 and quarter miles to Castle Pass is very mild, with elevation gain of only 725 feet. However, from the pass to the summit is an entirely different story, with an elevation gain of 1200 feet in just a mile. Here are some shots I have taken from previous climbs(the last shot in b/w courtesy of my husband E).
If you’re ever in the Tahoe area and are looking for a challenging (snowshoe) hike with rewarding views at the top, I strongly recommend Castle Peak.

My husband E, obviously isn’t afraid of heights ![]()

E took this shot of me at the summit

We can’t wait to go backpacking with Lukas this summer. Island Lake awaits.
